Tips on Managing Your Time

Our time is precious. Time is something we can never get back so spend it wisely. We only have so many hours in a day so it is important to make the most of all the time you have available to ensure you can work as productively as possible.

We have put together a few tips to help you make the most of your time.

Work out what time you work best

Are you an early bird or a night owl? If you do your best work in the mornings then try and schedule all tasks that use lots of brain power in those times. Easier tasks can then be slotted in for those hours you are not at your peak.

Turn off your notifications

Whether its email, phones or anything else that pings! Notifications can be very distracting and will disrupt your thought process. It can be so easy to get caught up in email conversations and you find yourself not actually getting much work done. Try and set 3 or 4 times during the day where you check your emails and then they won’t rule your day.

Schedule blocks of time to work – and stick to it!

This one is especially true for freelancers or anyone that works from home. There can often be a multitude of things to distract us but if we schedule work time into our calendars then it is much more likely to get done. Be realistic with your schedule too, if you try and cram in too much then you end up feeling despondent when you haven’t completed as much as you had planned to.

Automate what you can

If there are any processes that can be automated then this can save you lots of time. For example you could spend 2 or 3 hours a month sitting down and scheduling everything to go out on Social Media (depending on how often you post this could take longer of course) to save you sitting and posting every single day. Of course you will still want to reply to comments and have conversations but at least you know your content will be posted.

Outsource what you can

It is true what they say “You can do anything, but not everything” (David Allen). Outsourcing is a great way to save you time, you can outsource bookkeeping, payroll, business administration and much more. Your time is best spent on your core business as that is where you make your money. If you outsource other tasks associated with running a business this leaves you free to get on and do what you do best!
